**This was the page for my 2014 fursona, Frillz (and also has a bit about the 2013 one, Spiral). These are pretty much retired now, but this page is still here, saved exactly the way it was. A lot of the info on this page probably applies to any newer fursona(s) too anyway. **
My new fursona page. A ridiculously long and detailed page that will make you think I'm crazy.
There's also the Old Fursona Page from before I made my fursona, chronicling the dramatic journey through many old fursona ideas/attempts and how it finally led to my fursona. >_>

A brief history... As you can see on my Old Fursona Page, I had many attempts at a fursona but none were really serious or lasted long, until late 2012 when I started to come up with the idea of a black-and-white weird shapeshifting raptor thing. I slowly worked out more details but never had time to actually try to draw it. During FP's Art Fight in summer 2013, I really wished I had a fursona so I could get cool art of it like my other characters were getting, so, soon after Art Fight was when I finally made the time to create my fursona which I called "Spiral".
But, I immediately started thinking of ways to improve it. And also, in late 2013 I got obsessed with some other hobbies and wasn't much into art anymore, and left FP for quite a while. It was just before the next Art Fight in 2014 that I was finally drawn back, and by then, I was even less satisfied with my 2013 fursona (which I had barely even used anyway since I was gone for most of that year). So, I made a new version, which was admittedly rushed because I was trying to finish it before Art Fight, but still.
This year's model is called Frillz. I get the feeling I'll probably keep making a new version every year (since I'm already thinking of more ways to improve this one). But since it is a shapeshifter, it's still pretty much the same character as Spiral, and any future new versions will also be the same, just with a different appearance. If that makes sense.

^ Above: Awesome pic that I got from Art Fight (by Comatose)
Frillz, canine form: (even more rushed and bad anatomy i know)
^ Another version that I drew in.. December? Same design (except the mohawk but that's optional and I probably won't usually use it), but different style/anatomy, I like this one.
Aaand here is where I attempt to explain this thing and what it all means and why it keeps changing and everything. This is gonna take a while.
Name
My current story is that this creature doesn't actually have a true name, but adopts different names at different times when it changes forms.
Because I can never stick to the same username for very long, on FP or other sites. I just can't, I always end up changing it. And I don't really like my real name either and would probably change that all the time if it wouldn't be so confusing. It feels kind of weird to be called by any name at all. What's the deal with names. I could just call myself "Nameless" but that's a bit boring and there are too many other people named Nameless. Besides, the constantly changing names reflect how everything else about my fursona is also constantly changing.

Gender
It is biologically female, but identifies as genderless most of the time, although in certain situations she can be a girl. Which is why I tend to call it "it" most of the time, but sometimes "she".
This is also pretty much the same with me, to the point where it feels weird for me to be called "she" (but it would also be weird to be "he"), but at times I can be girly. Mostly when romance/crushes/fangirling is involved.
But it's pretty likely that my fursona is not ever going to have a mate or have babies. That would just be weird to me.

General Biology/Species Stuff
The creature's origins are uncertain. Whether it was a genetic experiment, or some kind of supernatural being, or both, no one knows. It has various abilities including time-travelling, but the main one is of course shapeshifting. It can't actually turn into everything, only certain animals/breeds, but still a pretty wide variety.
The main form seems to be some kind of raptor mixed with a dragon and.. some other stuff. It has some differences from a raptor such as not having the big claws on the feet, and having a thinner and more flexible tail. Also I haven't really decided if it has scales, smooth skin, or some kind of soft down/fur. But the spike things along its back were supposed to be feathers, although they might just be.. spike things. But either way, they're soft and flexible, and can stand up or lay flat.
It has optional features that it can make appear and disappear at will, like different kinds of wings (usually bat/dragon wings) and tentacles sprouting from its back. In the original version, Spiral, the tentacles were more of a main feature, and the idea was that the creature had some octopus DNA which was also what enabled it to change colors. It can have various numbers of tentacles and can extend them to great lengths and use them to grip things.
In this version the main feature is of course the frills, which are pretty much ripped off from Jurassic Park's Dilophosaurus, but also look like ears. The creature spreads out the frills to show their bright colors, usually as a threat to others when trying to defend itself.
If you wanted to categorize it as a specific kind of raptor, it's closest to a Deinonychus, and is about the same size as one.
The canine form (and most other animal forms) doesn't have the frills or tentacles or other weird features, usually. The canine form is a mix of coyote, Ibizan hound, and in the Spiral version was also supposed to have bull terrier and whippet, but you can't really tell in the newer version. It mostly looks like a coyote, but has shorter hair than most coyotes, and it has a long thin curling tail, with extra fluff at the end, like an Ibizan hound. The shape of its head is supposed to be a little weird because of the bull terrier in it, but I kinda messed up the muzzle on that ref. Its ears are a little bit longer and pointier than most coyotes', and they kind of curve/curl a little bit. The old version also had one floppy ear that's kind of notched/torn, which I've been considering bringing back.
All the animals/breeds that are in it or that it can turn into, are ones that I identify with somehow or have some connection to. It's kind of hard to explain why and would take forever and some of it is personal but trust me, they are. The reason it's a shapeshifter is that I could never decide on just one animal, like how I could never decide on just one name.
I am just gonna post the refs here again because they're way up there and I want to look at them while writing/reading this

Markings/Colors Stuff
First it should be mentioned, that even though the frills are what is most commonly seen changing colors/patterns, and on the old version (Spiral) the markings on the cheeks also often changed color and shape, actually everything else can change colors/markings too. There are some limits, again, it can't change to just any colors. It's harder to change to bright/unnatural colors, except on the frills and spikes/feathers and eyes. But it has a few favorite alternate color schemes, like grey and black (changing the white to grey), or white and dark brown (changing the black to brown). The markings can change to just about anything though, but it usually sticks to natural patterns or solid black.
Why I used these colors: White with black is my favorite color combo and to me it gives kind of a confident and bold feeling, yet also slightly weird/creepy, which is how I would like to be. It was also, in the old version, supposed to represent two sides of my personality, though that got a little complicated and it doesn't exactly mean that anymore. In the old one it was also a reference to various fictional things, songs, etc, that it also isn't really anymore.
Brown, aside from the fact that I think it looks great with white and black, is a more natural and plain color that brings it down to earth a little bit aaand (it's hard to explain what it means to me really) and I wanted it to have a third main color aside from being just black and white because so many other characters have those colors.
Purple is another of my favorite colors, one of my "me" colors. The other colors in the spikes on the back of the neck are ones that I used for the tentacles on the old version and I just wanted them to be in there somewhere, but I might think of a better place to put them. The cream-ish color of the horns doesn't really mean anything, I was going to just make them white but it looked weird with all the other white, didn't stand out enough?
One yellow eye and one orange eye, was originally part of the "two sides of personality" thing, but I kept it just because, I have an obsession with eye colors and those are my favorite colors for eyes plus I just like having the two different colors. Also in reality my eyes are brown, but I always like eye colors on my characters to stand out so I couldn't make them brown since there's other brown on there, but yellow and orange could be like a lighter or more intense version of brown anyway (brown is usually just dark yellow or orange, or red)
Oh and this isn't on the ref but, a lot of times when I draw/color my fursona myself, I also put some color inside the pupil of the eye (so that the pupil looks like it's ring-shaped with another color inside), orange in the yellow eye and yellow in the orange eye. You don't have to, it's just a style thing I do with some of my characters because I think it makes them look more "crazy", which does fit this one.
Why I used these markings: Honestly most of the markings on this version aren't as meaningful as the last one, because whenever I try to do markings that mean something, they end up just looking dumb to me (especially if I try to represent all my hobbies and stuff). And a lot of the markings on the old one ended up being too complicated or hard to draw, and I just wanted to make it simpler and more symmetrical, so I tried not to overthink it.
The black on the eyes and muzzle just gives it that weird creepy feel again, and dark spots around the eyes have always been one of my favorite markings. Stars are one of my favorite symbols that somehow seem to represent me (can't explain) and are also a simple way to reference multiple dumb things that are my favorite things, like fictional characters and songs (not gonna list it all, it's too dumb). Black ears/frills because when the frills are down/closed, they look a little like my hair, which is dark.
The wavy stripes don't really mean anything, I just wanted to have more stripes and have slightly more natural-looking markings than the last one. There are three stripes because 3 is one of my favorite/lucky numbers. The left "hand"/paw is white because I'm left-handed and I wanted to still have something asymmetrical in there (I think that's the only thing besides the eyes). The tail has black and white stripes because it's my absolute favorite pattern and reminds me of Tim Burton, again that weird/creepy feel. And it has 5 black stripes because 5 is my other favorite/lucky number (a lot of other characters that I design have 3 or 5 of something too).
Oh and the black-and-white-striped (and forked) tongue, was also in the old version where it was a reference to the cherubs from Homestuck (because of the personality duality thing again), so even though I got rid of most of the other weird references from that version, I kept the tongue as a small memento, 'cause there wasn't really a reason to change it. Anyway, the cherubs are still meaningful but in more of a "stronger self destroying the weaker self and taking over" way.
The spiked collar (and bracelet/cuff thing), aside from looking cool, is just a little "rebellious" thing to put in there, because sometimes I hate how society/government/etc works and how we're all expected to conform to it.

Personality
It's complicated. There was one side of its personality that was very cowardly and weak and caused most of its problems because it was too afraid to do anything to make its life better. Frillz tried to "kill" that side and release its true inner self that is more confident, determined, and happy, but still isn't sure if it was entirely successful yet. Nonetheless, Frillz is, or is trying to be, mostly happy and fun-loving, though a little weird and crazy. There are a couple of other sides/moods to it, like a fierce side when it gets defensive or rebellious (or just wants revenge), and a hopeless romantic daydreamer side (finds it hard to focus on some things because it's always daydreaming). It changes its mind about things a lot, goes through obsessions with different things, and tends to make up crazy rules and rituals for everything.
Its zodiac sign is Scorpio which fits pretty well. It doesn't always show much emotion outwardly to others, but feels emotions intensely on the inside, good or bad. Despite its (attempt at) confidence, it's still not that good at socializing with others. It likes to do things its own way and hates being ordered around or following other people's rules, and also hates asking others for things or help. And it has a hard time trusting anyone. This doesn't mean it wants to be alone though. It treats people the way they treat it, good or bad, so you could earn its trust and loyalty, or its wrath and revenge. It has been ignored or abandoned a lot and one of its main goals in life is simply to find a true friend.
Likes: I will probably work on a whole separate page to list millions of likes, but here are a few main ones:
creepy stuff, post-apocalyptic stuff, food, video games, art, rock music, electronic music, nature, stuff from the 90's and 80's, various movies (fantasy, horror, animated), anime and cartoons, dreams
I was going to list dislikes too but eh, I dislike them too much to acknowledge them, I'll just leave the negativity out of here

The Past
Aside from what's on the Old Fursona Page, ... here is the 2013 version of my fursona, Spiral:
To explain it a little (some of it is explained on the Old Fursona Page too) and why I wanted to change it... The checker-like markings on the side were kind of a reference to a Vocaloid song called "Meltdown" which was like my theme song at the time, Rin in the video is wearing an outfit that kind of looks like that. But I found it kind of hard to draw the squares all the time (like to actually make the sides straight enough), and wasn't as obsessed with that song anymore, so I left that off the Frillz version. The spirals on the cheeks, aside from just looking cool and spirals being another of my favorite symbols, they were also another reference to the cherubs from Homestuck, and also the movie Saw which I was also obsessed with at the time (and which was also what the cherubs are referencing themselves, but anyway), but at the time of making Frillz I didn't care much about those things anymore (although I got a little into Homestuck again later but eh), and they were also a little hard to draw properly. The asymmetrical face markings that look like a yin-yang symbol, were part of the "duality" and "balance" theme I had going, but that isn't really the general theme anymore, and all the asymmetry was kind of confusing like I mentioned before. Most of the other things that changed were just there to look cool, and I didn't think they looked that cool anymore. But some of it, I've been wanting to bring back, so the next version might end up being a bit of a hybrid between Spiral and Frillz plus some new stuff.
The Future?
Here are some of the changes I'm considering for the next version of my fursona. Although, I also made a list like this after I made Spiral, but then by the time I made Frillz, I didn't like most of the ideas on the list anymore, so this might be totally useless.
-- This might be too complicated but I was thinking of having some other forms with completely different colors/markings for different moods. (which I was also originally going to do with Spiral back when it had that "dual personality" thing.) The main "extra" form that I thought of so far, is kind of a "scary dark dangerous" form for when it's feeling defensive and needs some extra confidence (like "I can't be afraid of you when I'M the scary one!"), which usually is something bigger than the usual forms (the canine form would be a wolf or wolf hybrid of some kind) and is pure black with glowing eyes that are different colors from normal, has more and bigger extra features like wings/horns/tentacles/spikes, and really crazy/creepy facial expressions.
-- But I was considering having black be more of the main color on the normal form too, more black and less white. Not sure though.
-- Maybe having part of it be black with grey stripes, more subtle/natural-looking than the current markings.
-- The alternate color schemes like grey+black and white+brown like I mentioned before, possibly included on the ref
-- Maybe having brown undersides and/or paws, maybe in a lighter brown than the other one.
-- Trying to figure out how to fit more purple and blue in there somewhere, and a bit more brown or having the brown be more spread out
-- The stripes on the arms/legs are also starting to bug me, especially the purple ones on the back legs. Need to do something else with the purple, and think of something else to put on the arms/legs, or just leave them solid black or something, I dunno.
-- I've honestly been almost wanting to bring back Spiral's spirals and checker markings, or putting them somewhere on there, but I don't knooow
-- Maybe even making the face markings more like Spiral's again since I can't decide whether it should be mostly black or white, and this way it would be both (on different sides)
-- Different ears for the canine form and maybe the main form too. Longer ears that kinda stick out backwards, kinda like Spiral's ears but longer, and might add some markings to them, and/or make one ear black and one white again.
-- If it does keep Frillz's frills, might wanna add subtle stripes to them, brown or other colors
-- Possibly changing the spikes along the neck/back, in both shape and color. I know I made them longer on Frillz, but I was thinking of making them shorter again and also thinner (though that might be hard to draw) and having them stand upwards a little more by default (though the current ones technically CAN stand up more). And I might want them to be all or mostly black, or maybe just having the ones on the head/neck be all black but the rest brown (or alternating black/brown like currently), not sure. I'm at least getting rid of the bunch of different colors on the back of the neck because that's starting to bug me, it somehow reminds me of toothpaste? lol idk
-- Bringing back the feathers at the end of the tail, instead of the dragon tail spade thing that Frillz has.. not entirely sure
-- Species changes? The raptor form might get smaller, like a velociraptor (the real one, not the Jurassic Park one) or compsognathus, and less dragon-like again. The canine form I'm really not sure about, I might leave it as a regular coyote, make it a hairless "chupacabra"-type thing, make it more like Spiral's canine form again (in particular I've been wanting the head to be more like a bull terrier again but not sure), or even make it hyena-like.
-- Some other stuff that I can't even describe.
